The second day of York’s May meeting was lit up by the runaway success of See The Fire, who put the Gr.2 Middleton Fillies’ Stakes to bed by an impressive 12 lengths.

Owned and bred by Jeff Smith of Littleton Stud, the four-year-old filly is the product of Sea The Stars and Arabian Queen, both of whom won the Gr.1 International Stakes on the Knavesmire.

She was Group 1 placed as a juvenile, and at three won the Gr.3 Strensall Stakes at York as well as placing second in the Gr.1 Nassau Stakes and third in the Gr.1 Sun Chariot Stakes.

"She obviously relishes this trip and we made a bit of a bollocks of campaigning her last year when we didn't step up in distance until it was too late," said trainer Andrew Balding. "She really found her feet after the Eclipse last year and ran really well on Champions Day. There's lots to look forward to.

"We've always had a very high opinion of her and she's improved since last year.

"She's very exciting. We always fancied going back for the Nassau as she was second in it last year – that's the primary objective. If that goes well we might consider coming back here in August."
