Unbeaten half-brother to Rajsaman heads for Irish Derby.

Aga Khan Studs homebred Radanpour recorded his third win in as many outings on Friday, taking the Listed King George V Cup and earning his place in the Irish Derby.

Trained by Dermot Weld, the progressive colt made all the running in the mile and a half contest at Leopardstown, battling on bravely in the final stages to fend off the attack of Bondi Beach and Morning Mix who dead-heated for second place.

This was the first time that the colt had encountered good to firm ground, after a win on soft ground on his debut at Tipperary followed by a seven-length domination of his rivals on a heavy track at Gowran Park in May.

Sea The Stars is the sire of 16 Stakes winners and 23 Stakes performers.

Following this latest success, his handler Dermot Weld indicated that Radanpour’s next target is likely to be the Irish Derby on 28th June. « He’s a very genuine colt and needed a proper race as he had things very easy in his previous two races. I loved the way he stuck his neck out and battled. If we get nice ground he will probably run in the Irish Derby. »

Radanpour hails from an excellent maternal line originating from the Jean-Luc Lagardère breeding operation. Out of winning Lammtarra dam Rose Quartz, the colt is a half-brother to four-time Group-winning miler Rajsaman, and to Listed victrix Rosawa, dam of Gr.1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine and Gr.1 Prix de Diane runner-up Rosanara (Sinndar).

Radanpour became the sixteenth individual Stakes winner of his sire, Gilltown Stud-based Sea The Stars. The Classic stallion enjoyed Derby honours during the weekend thanks to his son Storm The Stars, third in the Gr.1 Epsom Derby and now favourite for the St Leger at Doncaster in September.
