The pedigree of Dolmalan combines two of the Aga Khan Studs’ most successful families – that of Zarak and Zarkava, tracing to Mumtaz Mahal, and the ‘D’ family comprising Dalakhani, Daylami and Dolniya, tracing to Boussac mare Astana. 

He made a winning start to racing on his sole start at two, defeating stablemate Shalazi in a newcomers’ race at Fontainebleau.

At three, he was at the head of a trifecta for his sire Zarak in the Prix du Mont Pagotte at Chantilly before returning to the same track three weeks later, this time in Stakes company. The Listed Prix de Suresnes – a key trial for the Prix du Jockey Club – has previously won by such stars as Sottsass and Ace Impact. Dolmalan showed a great turn of foot to land this first piece of black-type by a head from Ballydoyle’s Sea The Stars colt Montreal.

"He's still a little immature, but it was pleasing that he was able to accelerate like that," said trainer Mikel Delzangles. "If he was a good horse, he was going to be able to make up a few lengths and he did. The Prix du Jockey Club is a strong possibility."
