Inheriting his grey colour from sire Caravaggio, Erdenali is the first foal out of Erdana, a Sea The Stars half-sister to Aga Khan stallion Erevann out of three-time Group 1 heroine Ervedya.

Erdenali made an eye-catching debut in March 2026, breaking his maiden at Saint-Cloud by six-and-a-half lengths. He followed up with another comfortable victory at ParisLongchamp in May, which he won by two lengths.

Stepped up to Stakes company at Deauville in June, Erdenali obliged once more, winning the Listed Prix de Saint-Patrick by another clear margin. He duly started favourite for the Gr.3 Prix Messidor three weeks later, but was unlucky in running, being denied a clear run but keeping on to finish third, just a neck and a short neck behind the winner.
