Alakazi is the first foal out of Alaiya, a daughter of Sea The Stars from the family of  Alamshar.

Always highly rated by his trainer Johnny Murtagh, the striking son of Footstepsinthesand ran just once at two, but came into his own at three.

In six starts, he won twice and placed four times, breaking his maiden by seven and a half lengths in April and thereafter only running in Stakes company.

Alakazi placed third in the Listed Tetrarch Stakes, and finished as runner-up in both the Listed Celebration Stakes and Gr.3 Desmond Stakes. Then at Leopardstown in September, he was victorious in the Gr.2 Solonoway Stakes.

“You dream about days like today,” said Murtagh. “I’ve been telling Pat Downes all year how good this horse was.

“His last few bits of work have been great, he’s learning on the job. We were a little bit disappointed he didn’t win the last time, but we knew coming here that he was going to be a different proposition.

“He’s a beautiful horse and a beautiful horse to train. I think he can go all the way.”

Indeed, Alakazi's next start was at Group 1 level, in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot. Here he finished third, with top-flight winners Docklands, Fields Of Gold, Rosaillion, Never So Brave, Tamfana, Facteur Cheval, Fallen Angel and Carl Spackler finishing behind him.

Alakazi stays in training for 2026.
