Speedy Siyouni filly Amelia’s Jewel takes another Group win. Two-year-old Amelia’s Jewel maintained her unbeaten record in style on Saturday as she blitzed to victory in the Gr.2 Karrakatta Plate over six furlongs at Ascot in Perth, Australia.

“I’ve had some good horses in my time, but she is special,” said owner/breeder Peter Walsh of Amelia Park Racing, who also sponsored the A$500,000 contest. “All my girls are here today. Jessie, my youngest daughter, is the strapper.”

Her trainer Simon Miller added: “I’m a wreck. I knew we had the right product and the first time I galloped her I thought what have we got here… The track was against us today, but she is a freak.”

The SIYOUNI filly, a three-time Stakes winner, is mooted as the best two-year-old in Australia behind dual Gr.1 winner Fireburn. She is now set for a spell after pulling up with sore shins, before returning in the spring aimed at the Gr.2 WA Guineas and Gr.1 Kington Town Classic. Thereafter the top races on the East Coast on the agenda for 2023.

Meanwhile in Europe, SIYOUNI became the broodmare sire of Listed 2000 Guineas Trial winner Dr Zempf (Dark Angel), who was a Gr.1 runner up last season. His dam Souvenir Delondres was one of SIYOUNI’s first Stakes winners, winning the Gr.3 Prix Eclipse in 2014.
