Dual Derby winner to stand at Kilbarry Lodge Stud. The Aga Khan Studs’ dual Derby winner Harzand has been sold and will continue his career at Kilbarry Lodge Stud in County Waterford.

Harzand retired to Gilltown Stud in 2017 after having won the Epsom Derby and Irish Derby. He was among the leading European sires of three-year-olds by percentage of winners to runners with his first crop in 2021.

This year amongst his representatives on the flat is progressive three-year-old Mostly Cloudly, who last month won his fifth consecutive race of 2022, and consistent four-year-old Soapy Stevens, a dual winner this season.

Also among Harzand’s first crop four-year-olds, Kolisi has started to make a name for himself over hurdles, notably winning three races in quick succession this April, while Gaoth Chuil has won once and placed three times in Irish National Hunt Flat Races.

Meanwhile Harzand’s third crop got off to a good start when Aga Khan-bred two-year-old filly Kayhana made a winning debut over seven furlongs at Limerick in early June.

However in recent years he has predominately been supported by the National Hunt division and now moves to Con O’Keeffe’s Kilbarry Lodge Stud where I am sure he will continue do very well, given he has stock yet to race out of some talented National Hunt race mares and broodmares.”
