Velvet Moon, who topped the Tattersalls December mares sale when selling for 875,000 Guineas, is another from the excellent book of mares covered by Daylami in 2002. Velvet Moon, herself the winner of the Group II Lowther Stakes, is the dam of Moon Ballad who won this year’s Group II Dante Stakes before finishing third in the Epsom Derby and second in the Champion Stakes.

Daylami’s first yearlings sold particularly well this Autumn, for an average profit of 85,700 Euros, or 75% return on his stud fee, thus making him the most profitable freshman sire standing at £7000 and above. (Dr Statz, Pacemaker”.11/2002)
