Tamarillo gave promising young sire Daylami an early season success when running out the convincing winner of the UAE Oaks over nine furlongs at Nad Al Sheba yesterday evening. The grey filly had recently finished a close second in a competitive conditions’ race against colts at the same course. Settled in second position until the straight, Tamarillo took the lead early in the straight, and ran on strongly right to the line, repelling Festive Style’s challenge, as the pair drew over eight lengths clear from the rest of the field.

...

Tamarillo was the third leg of a treble for her jockey Ted Durcan who commented: “I’ve always liked her and rode her in the May Hill for Michael Bell. She has a great attitude and really battled on, and she would make a nice filly in Europe.”

Her trainer Mazin Al Kurdi, delighted with the performance said: “I think she will go for the UAE Derby – she stays well and I will speak to Sheikh Rashid, but she could end up in Europe.”

Tamarillo is already the second winner in what could prove an exciting year for Daylami, also sire of leading Classic prospect Grey Swallow, and Stakes winner Bay Tree, who also holds a 1,000 Guineas entry.
