Sea The Stars

Stradivarius, Listen In and Call Me Love on the mark for Gilltown sire. Sea The Stars continued his superb season over the weekend, registering a Stakes treble across Europe.

Top stayer Stradivarius set the ball rolling when maintaining his unbeaten record in 2018 with success in the Gr. 2 British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot. The four-year-old showed both tactical speed and stamina to justify favouritism and record his fifth victory of the season in the two-mile contest. Stradivarius has taken the long distance discipline by storm this season, winning the inaugural Weatherbys Hamilton £1 million bonus thanks to his successes in the Yorkshire Cup, Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale Cup. John Gosden-trained son of Sea The Stars and Private Life (Bering) has been a model of courage and consistency all season and will now be rested over the winter before attempting a repeat performance in 2019.

At Chantilly on Sunday, Sea The Stars’ daughter Listen In opened her Group account with a smooth success in the Gr. 2 Prix du Conseil de Paris. Already a dual Listed scorer, the filly had also picked up numerous places at Group level. Listen In, who was purchased for owner George Strawbridge for 310,000 Guineas as a foal, is out of winning Inchinor mare Es Que who has also produced Group winners Dominant and Es Que Love. Trainer Freddy Head indicated that the filly is now likely to be retired to stud.

Sea The Stars is enjoying his best ever season with his juveniles, with his highest number of two-year-old winners to date and a ratio of 36% winners to runners with this generation. This form was highlighted in Italy, as his unbeaten daughter Call Me Love overpowered her male counterparts in fine style to lift the Listed Premio Campobello by four and a half lengths. This nine-furlong contest has often served as a stepping stone towards the Derby Italiano in the past, and trainer Stefano Botti confirmed that he had Classic ambitions for the filly in 2019.
