Spirited Style steps up in Stakes company

Daughter of Sea The Stars wins the Aphrodite Stakes.

Blue blooded Spirited Style took her first Stakes success on Saturday in the Listed Aphrodite Stakes at Newmarket.

The Godolphin homebred, a three-year-old daughter of Sea The Stars and triple Group 1 winner Wild Illusion, won smoothly by a length and three-quarters. It was only her third start, having been second on debut in May before breaking her maiden by an impressive three and a half lengths at Haydock.

“She's improving and improving off each run, she relished the conditions today and really enjoyed the [good-to-] soft ground,” said winning jockey Billy Loughnane. “I hit the front sooner than ideal, but we had to go as I didn't want to get boxed in. She'd have probably been a more impressive winner had I not needed to do that. She hadn't been tried in any Stakes-level race and some of the others brought in a good standard of form. It was a bit of an unknown, but she took to it well and is still learning.”

Spirited Style is the 139th Stakes winner for Sea The Stars.

On the other side of the Channel, Siyouni’s Mont De Soleil, already a Listed winner, went up in grade to win the Gr.3 Grand Prix de Vichy, enjoying the step back in trip to 10 furlongs. The Al Asayl France homebred could now be aimed at races abroad.
