Deutsches St. Leger goes to Bonneval sire’s daughter Kaldera.

Sinndar lived up to his billing as a Classic stallion once again on Sunday as his daughter Kaldera lifted the Gr.3 Deutsches St. Leger, a fifth victory of the season, including two Stakes successes for this talented filly.

Under a patient ride from Eddy Hardouin, Kaldera galloped in the rear of the field for much of the mile and three-quarter contest. Last entering the final turn, the filly made sweeping progress on the outside and responded bravely to her jockey’s urgings throughout the straight to secure the lead in the final half furlong. Kaldera posted a three-quarter length winning margin in this Grosser Preis von DWS21 Deutsches St Leger, beating colts and her elders.

On this occasion, the filly was untroubled by the testing Dortmund track, and she had adapted similarly well to good ground when opening her Stakes account in the Listed Steherpreis at Baden-Baden just two weeks previously.

Kaldera is owned by a trio of professional footballers and trained by Paul Harley who commented, « She is all heart. She is one of the toughest horses I have ever known. »

Bonneval sire Sinndar had earned further black-type just days earlier in France, as his son Ashkannd (ex Group 2 winner Ashalanda) took the third place behind winning stablemate Behesht ( Sea The Stars) in the Listed Prix Turenne at Saint-Cloud.

The late Azamour was also in the news across Europe, thanks to a pair of juveniles. In Italy, his son Azari ran out the easy winner of the Listed Premio Vittorio Riva over a mile at San Siro. In Scotland, Mind Of Madness picked up his third black-type when taking second in the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes at Ayr. Already a Listed scorer and Group 2 runner-up, the colt was conceding weight to all his rivals and was beaten just a head on this latest outing. Azamour has a ratio of 56% winners to runners lifetime.
