The Aga Khan Studs announce that dual Derby and Arc winner Sinndar is to be retired from stud duties. An exceptional racehorse for his owner-breeder H.H. the Aga Khan, Sinndar was a Group 1 winner as a juvenile before going on to attain champion status at three with victories in the Epsom and Irish Derbies, and culminating in success in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in 2000. He remains the only horse to achieve this feat.

The son of Grand Lodge made his mark at stud as a talented and versatile stallion based successively at Gilltown Stud and Haras de Bonneval. His Group 1 winning progeny feature Prix Marcel Boussac winner Rosanara, the high-class Shareta and Shawanda, as well as the tough and durable Youmzain. Sinndar is also a Classic broodmare sire, having produced the dams of both Flotilla and Trading Leather among his many Stakes-producing daughters.

In a fitting tribute, Sinndar’s only yearling presented at Tattersalls Book 2 was sold yesterday for 300,000 gns to Roger Varian. The full brother to Group 2 winner Four Sins was bred and consigned by Philipp Stauffenberg.

At age 20 this year, Sinndar has joined Dalakhani at the Haras d’Ouilly in Normandy, where the pair enjoy a peaceful retirement.
