Group-winning juvenile The Lion In Winter was sold at last year’s Goffs Orby Sale, and unsurprisingly yearlings by his sire Sea The Stars were once again in demand at this year’s renewal.

It was Godolphin who prevailed against underbidders Coolmore for lot 267, a colt out of Holy Amaretta, bred by Sunderland Holding and consigned by Norelands Stud. From an illustrious Group 1 winning German family, the colt sold for €900,000 and finished the Book 1 sale as one of the top three lots.

“Needless to say, Sea The Stars speaks for himself. He’s a wonderful stallion,” said Anthony Stroud, who signed for the colt on behalf of Godolphin. “This horse is very athletic, Norelands is extremely good at producing horses and this is an extremely nice horse. It’s complimentary when the people who recognise that, all of whom are good judges, are on him.”

Other notable Sea The Stars yearlings to feature included lot 145, a close relation to Classic-placed Mojo Star from the family of Rail Link consigned by Kellsgrange Stud, who sold for €500,000 to Joseph O’Brien, and a filly out of a half-sister to Sea The Stars’ Group 1 winner Mekhtaal – also consigned by Norelands – who sold for €460,000 to Cary Bloodstock on behalf of Wells Watson.

The sole Zarak yearling in the sale, a colt consigned by Staffordstown from Kirsten Rausing’s great Albanova family, was sold for €100,000 to Godolphin.
