Classic sire retired from covering duties. It is with great regret that the Aga Khan Studs announce the retirement of Dalakhani, at the age of 16, from covering duties.

The winner of four Group 1 races including the Prix du Jockey Club and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe during his illustrious racing career, Dalakhani stood at Gilltown Stud in Ireland from 2004 until joining the Haras de Bonneval for his final season in 2016.

The elegant grey is the sire of eight Group 1 winners. Among these are Irish Oaks heroine Moonstone, St Leger, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes and dual Breeders’ Cup scorer Conduit, and Reliable Man who was successful at the highest level in both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere.

Dalakhani won four Gr.1 races including the Prix du Jockey Club and the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe during his illustrious racing career.

By Darshaan, Dalakhani represents one of the most prestigious Aga Khan families. His dam Daltawa (Miswaki) also produced the top class racehorse and sire Daylami, the dam of Gr 1 Dubai Sheema Classic winner Dolniya, and the granddam of Prix de l’Opéra winner Dalkala.

The quality of this maternal line shows through in Dalakhani’s talents as a sire and also as a broodmare sire. His influence is already beginning to live on through his female progeny, as Dalakhani is the broodmare sire of 20 Stakes performers, including recent Epsom Derby runner-up US Army Ranger who is a son of Classic winner Moonstone.

Dalakhani will enjoy his retirement at the Aga Khan Studs in Normandy, alongside another influential grey sire, Linamix, who is now aged 29.
