Zarak

A full book of mares for the Gr.1 winning son of Zarkava. Blue-blooded Zarak has successfully completed his first season at the Aga Khan Studs’ Haras de Bonneval in Normandy, where he covered a full book of 133 well-bred mares.

The winner of the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint Cloud and runner-up in the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club attracted a high-class selection of partners, including top-level performers and close relatives to Group 1 winners.

The Aga Khan Studs lent strong support to Zarak, entrusting their new young sire to dual Group 1 winner and Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe runner-up Shareta, who is by proven broodmare sire Sinndar. Zarak was also the suitor of Listed winner and Group 1 placed Visorama (Linamix), who is the dam of top stayer Vazirabad, as well as Group 1 placed Shankardeh (Azamour), half-sister to Prix de l’Opéra winner Shalanaya.

Triple Group 1 winning miler Charm Spirit is currently enjoying great success with his first crop of juveniles and Reem, the half-sister to this Haras de Bonneval-based sire, was covered by Zarak. The son of Dubawi and the unbeaten Zarkava was also chosen for Embraceable You, a daughter of Group 1 Coronation Stakes winner Fallen For You, and for Murviel who is the full sister to Siyouni’s recent Prix de Diane heroine Laurens.

Heather Rose, the own sister to Arc and King George scorer Hurricane Run and Sanabyra (Kahyasi), whose half-sister Sarafina won the Prix de Diane and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, were both covered by Zarak.

Waldfest, whose German pedigree features St Léger winner Masked Marvel and Waldlerche, the dam of recent Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud scorer Waldgeist and Group 2 Prix de Malleret winner Waldlied, is in foal to Zarak, as is Petit Calva, a Listed winner who is the half-sister to Beverly D Stakes winner Mauralakana.

The first mare in foal to Zarak for sale, Belle Above All, features as lot 136 in the catalogue of the forthcoming Tattersalls July Sale at Newmarket.
