Stallions and maternal lines from Aga Khan Studs appeal at Deauville. Arqana’s Deauville yearling sale was a successful one for the Aga Khan Studs sires, with particularly pleasing performances from the progeny of Dalakhani and first-season stallion Siyouni.

Three of Dalakhani’s yearlings met with buyers in the ring, selling for an average of €183,333 and median of €170,000. This represents a multiplication of a factor of more than five from the Arc winner’s 2011 nomination fee of 35,000 Euros. Dalakhani, who recently celebrated his sixth individual Group 1 winner as a sire, was notably represented by lot 157 from the Haras du Quesnay. This colt whose pedigree traces back to Aga Khan Studs-bred champion Masarika was knocked down for €310,000 to Tina Rau and Nicolas Clement, acting on behalf of Count André de Ganay and Christian Baillet.

Sea The Stars, who already counts a pair of winners from his first juveniles on the track, sold two yearlings for an average of €132,500 and these featured €170,000 purchase by Meridian International, a granddaughter of Gr 1 victrix Sophisticat.

Fellow Gilltown Stud resident Azamour registered a good score with his trio of yearlings to change hands in the ring for an average of €68,333, a significant increase on his 2011 stud fee of €15,000. The attraction of his trio was lot 274, a son of dual Gr 3 winner Top Toss consigned by the Haras de la Louvière and purchased by trainer Jean-Claude Rouget for Jean-Louis Tepper for €155,000.

Redoute’s Choice, who recently completed his first shuttle season at the Haras de Bonneval, met with success for his sole Arqana yearling. Lot 178, a half-brother to two Group winners, was snapped up by Morten Buskop for €100,000 for BS Racing. The only Sinndar youngster of the catalogue, lot 368, was sold during the Monday session for €40,000 to Toby Jones.

The first yearlings of Siyouni (Pivotal) were greeted with approval from buyers. During the first three days, four of his yearlings registered a total of €212,000, with a further two selling for €68,000 in the new V2 section.

Aga Khan maternal lines were also in demand, most notably in the form of one million euro filly lot 99, a daughter of Galileo and Gr 1 winner Alpine Rose who has joined the Coolmore operation.
