Millionaires at Arqana for Siyouni and Zarak

Yearlings by Aga Khan sires in demand at August Sale.

Lot 140

Siyouni is no stranger to seven-figure yearlings, and the 2025 August Yearling Sale proved no exception.

Lot 140, a colt out of Group 1 winner Lightening Pearl consigned by Tweenhills, sold for €1,250,000 to American Racing Corp.

“Well, to be honest, when Sheikh Fahad saw the horse today for the first time he said it’s the best horse we’ve ever bred on the farm,” said David Redvers. “So I’ve got to take it as a major compliment! He handled everything quite brilliantly here.

“I feel slightly sick. We’ve been building our operation for a long time and I don’t think we’ve had a nicer colt than this, with a stallion’s pedigree, so obviously I’m sick to see him go.”

Siyouni finished the sale among the leading sires, with an average of €396,563 for 16 yearlings sold.

Lot 302

Among his other top priced yearlings was lot 302, a filly out of a full sister to Waldgeist consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux, sold for €750,000 to De Burgh Equine and Glen Hill Farm; a filly out of Typique from a strong Niarchos family, consigned by Haras d’Etreham and sold to Billy Jackson Stops and Victorious Racing for €625,000; and a pair of yearlings sold for €600,000 respectively to North Hills Co Ltd (from La Motteraye) and Godolphin (from Ecurie des Monceaux).

Earlier in the sale, a Siyouni colt out of Hourglass was knocked down to BBA Ireland’s Michael Donohoe for €340,000. He was consigned by Monceaux on behalf of breeder China Horse Club.

“Obviously we loved the cross of Siyouni on Galileo, which is a proven cross,” said Donohoe. “He’s from a fabulous family, a fantastic farm, and very good breeders in China Horse Club. It’s quite tough on those May foals to prepare them this early for the sale, but we like his physical and his pedigree.”

The Siyouni colt out of Galaxe, bred and consigned by Haras d’Haspel, was sold for €340,000 to Carlos and Yann Lerner. The colt is a full brother to Stakes winner God Blessing, who placed just outside the frame in the Gr.1 Prix du Moulin. Yann Lerner said: “He’s a very, very good-looking horse. For me, he’s as close to a perfect physical as you could have and by a proven stallion. We are very lucky to be able to have a horse like him for our yard.”

Lot 205

Meanwhile Zarak, whose 2025 yearlings are his first conceived at €60,000, achieved his first millionaire yearling when lot 140, a filly out of Prudente consigned by Ecurie des Monceaux, sold for €1.1 million to One Agency on behalf of Lordship Stud.

Tom Harris said: “She’s going to go to Francis Graffard. It’s an amazing family, beautifully cultivated by our good friend Henri Bozo. Over time we’ve been looking to buy something from this family and we loved this filly. We’re delighted to get her.

“We are great admirers of Zarak. He is a fantastic stallion, one of the best in Europe.”

Lot 299

The filly out of Group 1 winner Watch Me, consigned by Railton Sales Agency, sold for €510,000 to David Redvers, who commented: “We're now seeing the Zaraks arriving out of mares of a better standard... He's proven himself to be exceptional. Everyone knows Zarak's statistics; they're impressive."

A Zarak colt out of another Group 1 winner, Simple Verse, made €400,000 to Sébastien Desmontils’ Chauvigny Global Equine from the Monceaux consignment. Desmontils had earlier gone to €370,000 to secure a Zarak half-brother to Stakes winning and Group 1 placed Siyouni colt Mount Kilimanjaro, and said: “Zarak’s statistics are exceptional and things will only get better as his strongest crops are still to come.”

In total, Zarak had 15 yearlings sell for an average of €273,467.

Lot 258

The top priced Sea The Stars yearling of the sale was lot 258, a colt out of Stakes winner Singforthemoment, who was consigned by Haras de Saint Vincent and sold for €700,000 to Godolphin. A close relative to Sea The Stars’ Group 1 winning filly Sea La Rosa sold for €675,000 to Paddy Twomey from Monceaux; a filly out of Stakes winner Ricla sold for €520,000 from Haras de Saint Isidro to The Thoroughbred Racing Corporation; and a colt from the family of Lammtarra made €500,000 when selling from the Coulonces Consignment to KGS.

On the first day, a Monceaux-consigned close relation to Harzand and Emily Upjohn had sold for €420,000 to Hubie de Burgh and Craig Bernick.

“First of all, she’s a beautiful filly with a great outlook and a big stride,” said Bernick. “We’ve only ever had one Sea The Stars for Glen Hill Farm. In the long term he’s a top broodmare sire, so she’s for the stud. You can’t say it’s one of the best Aga Khan families, as there are so many great ones, but it’s such an important family in France going back. It’s one of those families that’s always on the radar if you’ve never tapped into it before. She’ll go to Francis Graffard and we’ll race her here in France.”

Eight Sea The Stars yearlings at the sale sold for an average of €385,625.
