Prolific Cornwallville lifts Criterium du Languedoc. First season sire Makfi opened his black-type account earlier in the week thanks to his son Cornwallville, winner of the Listed Criterium du Languedoc in the colours of Pearl Bloodstock.

This precocious colt has enjoyed a busy and productive juvenile season, beginning his racing career on the opening day of the turf season in Britain when making his debut at Doncaster in March. Cornwallville was quick to show his talents, taking second place on his second outing and registering his first success in June at Chantilly.

The son of Makfi collected three further victories in France over the summer months and earned his first black-type when third in the Listed Prix Herod at Chantilly in early October.

The consistent chestnut recorded his fifth victory when securing the Listed Criterium de Languedoc at Toulouse on 11th November. Ridden by Maxime Guyon, the Francis Graffard trainee took command of the race at the entrance to the straight and was not stretched to score by three-quarters of a length at the post of this mile contest.

Cornwallville is one of 18 individual winners for first-season sire Makfi, who counts three further black-type performers. Makfi, a son of Dubawi, was a top-class miler on the track, winning the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Prix Jacques le Marois, beating Goldikova, at Deauville.

The young sire is set to stand at the Haras de Bonneval in Normandy for the 2015 season in a new partnership between the Aga Khan Studs and Qatar bloodstock.
