Shin Emperor

Shin Emperor and Star Fortress both new Stakes winners for their sires. Both Siyouni and Sea The Stars were recently represented by new Group winners on the international stage.

In Japan, two-year-old Shin Emperor maintained his unbeaten record, showing a great turn of foot to win the Gr.3 Kyoto Nisai Stakes for owner Susumu Fujita, and in the process becoming the 40th Group winner for his sire Siyouni.

The full brother to multiple Group 1 winner Sottsass was the sales topper at last year’s Arqana August Yearling Sale when selling for €2.1 million to trainer Yoshito Yahagi. His Group win was a particularly poignant victory as his dam, Starlet’s Sister, passed away from colic at Ecurie des Monceaux just a few days before.

In the USA, Sea The Stars filly Star Fortress made it a winning Stateside debut in the Gr.3 Cardinal Stakes at Churchill Downs, which she won by an easy 10 lengths for John D Gunther and Eurowest Bloodstock Services. She is now in the care of Kentucky-based trainer Cherie Devaux, having previously been with Ralph Beckett, where she was twice Stakes placed. Star Fortress was purchased by Tanya Gunther for 130,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale in 2019.
