Aga Khan stallions shine with juveniles

Unbeaten two-year-old Fantastic Moon showed a good turn of foot to win the Gr.3 Solario Stakes.

A Gr 3 winner for Dalakhani and two promising maidens for Azamour. The Aga Khan Studs sires Dalakhani and Azamour enjoyed a successful weekend thanks to three progeny rich in potential for the future.

Dalakhani’s son Fantastic Moon showed an impressive turn of foot to come from last to first in the final furlong and snatch victory in the shadow of the post in the Gr 3 Solario Stakes at Sandown. Jeremy Noseda’s charge was winning his second race in as many outings after winning his maiden, also over seven furlongs, at Newmarket in August. Bought for 210,000 Guineas at last October’s Tattersalls yearling sale, Fantastic Moon should now step up again in class. His trainer and jockey William Buick both feel that the colt possesses the class to compete in Group 1 company, with the Racing Post Trophy a likely target for the end of the season.

Fellow Gilltown sire Azamour recorded a double of first-time-out winners, with Nuit d’Amour victorious at Longchamp and Liber Nauticus at Goodwood.

Liber Nauticus won impressively first time out despite being green.

Trained by Pia Brandt, Nuit d’Amour was the first to head for home in the straight in the Prix de la Cascade unraced fillies’ contest and held on well for success from Alta Stima in second. The filly, which was bought for 135,000 Euros by Meridian International at Deauville in August 2011, looks to have a bright future. In winning the Prix de la Cascade, Nuit d’Amour is following in the illustrious footsteps of Zarkava and Galikova.

At Goodwood, Liber Nauticus was the clear winner of the EBF Racing UK Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over a mile. Green in the early stages of the race, she should have plenty of improvement to come for owner-breeders Ballymacoll Stud. This filly is the second produce, and first winner, from her dam Serres (Daylami) who is a half-sister to Dalakhani’s four-time Group 1 winner Conduit.
