The Aga Khan Studs have today announced the appointment of Declan McDonogh as their retained jockey for His Highness the Aga Khan’s horses in training with John Oxx for the 2013 flat season.

Declan has been long established as one of the leading flat jockeys in Ireland for the last 15 years. While stable jockey for Kevin Prendergast, he rode Group 1 winners for that yard; Rebelline in the 2002 Tattersalls Gold Cup, Termagant in the 2009 Moyglare Stud Stakes and also Kingsfort in the National Stakes the same year. Declan was also crowned Champion jockey in Ireland in 2006.

Commenting on the appointment, Pat Downes, manager of the Aga Khan’s Irish Studs, said: “Declan Mc Donogh has been one of the leading flat jockeys in Ireland for some time now and has a wealth of experience to bring to the position. He is an extremely stylish and strong rider and I am certain he will be a great asset to us in the coming years."

McDonogh said: "I'm thrilled at getting the job with His Highness and it will be an honour and a privilege to be riding regularly in the famous green and red colours next year.”
