Kalabar gave his sire Kahyasi another Group winner when taking the ten furlong Group II Prix Guillaume d’Ornano at Deauville on Friday. The year old colt, owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah, sat in last position behind a fast early pace set by the English raider Saturn, and quickened well in the final 300 yards to grab to take the lead from the long time leader just before the post.

Kalabar had previously finished second, beaten a nose, in the Group II Prix Eugene Adam over the same distance last month, and had also finished third in the Group III Prix la Force in May.

Trainer Pascal Bary commented: “Luckily it was a truly run race, which allowed Kalabar to settle early on before showing a good turn of foot in the straight… A race like the Prix Dollar (Group II) on Arc day is a possible target for this horse.”
