Gr 3 success for Kargali while Keredari takes Listed prize. Kargali became the latest in a succession of Aga Khan Studs’ graduates when he lifted the Group 3 Gladness Stakes at The Curragh on Sunday. The grey already boasted a Listed victory to his name when offered at the Goffs Horses in Training sale last November and he changed hands for a bid of €51,000 from current handler Luke Comer.

Five-year-old Kargali rewarded his new connections when relishing the heavy ground to quicken well and reel in his former stable-mate Rayeni for the first Group victory of his career. The son of Invincible Spirit and Listed runner-up Karliyka now emulates his half-siblings Karasta and Kasthari who have also enjoyed success at Group level.

Last season’s Irish 2000 Guineas second Rayeni (Indian Ridge) was making his seasonal debut and raced rather keenly throughout the seven-furlong contest. John Oxx’s charge finished 2nd and was beaten by ¾ length at the line, for his owner/breeder, the Aga Khan.

Keredari displayed Classic potential when making all to take the Listed Loughbrown Stakes by 4 lengths over the same course and distance earlier in the afternoon. The son of Oasis Dream is out of a winning half-sister to Group 3 scorer Keraka and his granddam was also a Group 3 winner. Keredari was winning his second race in three outings and he took third place last October in the Group 3 Killavullen Stakes. He is now likely to represent HH Aga Khan’s colours in the Irish 2000 Guineas on 22nd May.
