Aga Khan dams feature prominently in the August catalogue.
Last year's top price is a cousin to lot 316
Consigned by the Haras du Cadran, lot 253 is a son of Prix Morny winner Elusive City and the unraced Mansoura (Kalanisi). The colt is the second offspring of his well-bred dam, who is a half-sister to dual American Group 1 winner and sire Manndar, Listed scorer Mandilak as well as Mandalara, dam of triple Group 1 heroine Mandesha and Stakes-placed Mandali. This family is still very active, with Mandesha already dam of black-type Mandour.
Lot 256 is another yearling from a former Lagardère maternal line. The granddam of this son of Invincible Spirit is dual Listed scorer Marque Royale, dam of a pair of Listed winners in Marquix and Sceptre Rouge in addition to Mariyara (Daylami), winner of one race and dam of this colt. This is also the family of last year’s Classic winner Blue Bunting (1000 Guineas, Irish and Yorkshire Oaks) under the third dam, Listed victrix and Group 1 third Mrs Arkada, as well as Group winners Bonfire and Joviality. The colt is presented by the Motteraye Consignment.
Lot 266 Anahita should arouse plenty of interest as this filly is by promising young sire Turtle Bowl who already counts a French Guineas winner (Lucayan) and 2000 Guineas runner-up (French Fifteen) among his first crop. Presented by the Haras de la Reboursière et de Montaigu, the filly is out of dual winner Nazlia (Polish Precedent), who is a half-sister to Stakes placed Nizamabad and is from the family of Group 1 winners Natroun, Yashgan, Vayrann, Valanour and Vereva. She was sold after her racing career at Arqana’s December sale in 2006, where she was bought for €62,000 by FIPS.
Lot 316 will be highly anticipated in the Deauville ring, being closely related to last August’s sale topper. Indeed the dam of this Reboursière et de Montaigu graduate, Sanada (Priolo) is a half-sister to Sanjida, dam of the €1.7 million filly sold to Waratah Thoroughbreds last year. Three time Group 1 winner and Arc third Sarafina is of course another half-sister to the pair, alongside Group 3 winner Sandagiyr and Group 1 runner-up Sanaya. The winner of one race, Sanada has already given birth to the talented Saint Loup, second in the Gr.3 Prix la Force earlier this season. Saint Loup was bought by Sylvain Vidal for owner Gérard Augustin Normand for €90,000 here at Deauville two years ago.
