The Aga Khan Studs bred pair of Sandagiyr and Manighar have both shone for new connections in recent days, with Sandagiyr successful in the Gr.3 Firebreak Stakes at Meydan and Manighar victorious in the Gr.3 Carlyon Cup at Caulfield.

The well-bred Godolphin recruit Sandagiyr is none other than the half-brother of three-time Group 1 scorer and Arc third Sarafina. A Listed winner at Chantilly aged three, Sandagiyr was snapped up by Anthony Stroud for €140,000 at Arqana’s Arc Sale in 2011. The son of Dr Fong joined the Goldolphin team for the Dubai Carnival and was a stylish winner of the Gr.3 Firebreak Stakes over a mile on the Tapeta surface of Meydan on his first outing for new handler Saeed Bin Suroor. In addition to Sarafina and Sandagiyr, their dam Sanariya (Darshaan) has also produced four further winners including dual Listed victrix Sanaya (Barathea) and multiple Stakes placed Sanjida (Polish Precedent).

Now aged six, globetrotter Manighar has been a model of consistency during his career and he was rewarded on Saturday with success in the Gr.3 Carlyon Cup, part of the Caulfield Festival in Australia. The son of Linamix had shown his talent from his three-year-old season in France, winner of the Gr.2 Prix Chaudenay as well as a pair of Listed contests and a third in the Gr.1 Prix Royal-Oak. The talented stayer was bought privately as a Melbourne Cup hope, finishing seventh in Australia’s premier race in 2010 and fifth in 2011. The grey gelding has also picked up numerous places at the highest level, including fourths in the Ascot Gold Cup and the Caulfield Cup. Out of black-type mare Mintly Fresh (Rubiano), Manighar is a full brother to Group 3 winner Minatlya whose first progeny Mandistana (Azamour) won impressively on her sole juvenile outing last October at Saint-Cloud.
