Shemala looked a horse for the future when running out the easy winner of the Listed Prix Madame Jean Couturié at Vichy on Tuesday. Previously the winner of a conditions’ event at Longchamp in June, this beautifully bred daughter of Danehill and Prix de Diane winner Shemaka was further contributing to an outstanding first half of the season for the Aga Khan Studs.

Taking the lead in a slowly run race, Shemala bowled along happily in front with her ears pricked, until asked to quicken two furlongs out. Responding well, she immediately created a two length gap, and kept a comfortable lead to the line under a hands and heels ride from Christophe Soumillon.

Shemala’s dam, Shemaka, winner of the Group I Prix de Diane and Group III Prix de la Nonette at three, as well as the Group IIII Prix de Condé at two, has already produced three winners, including the Stakes winning Darshaan filly Shemaya.
