Dalakhani furthered his claim to the status of leading European three year old with a devastating performance in the Group I Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly yesterday. Settled in midfield until halfway up the straight, Dalakhani quickened clear in a matter of strides, taking the lead two furlongs out with an electrifying burst of speed. Briefly threatened by Super Celebre a furlong out, Dalakhani accelerated again and went past the post being eased up two lengths clear of his nearest rival.

Thus maintaining his unbeaten record, the son of Darshaan, winner of the 1984 Prix du Jockey Club, and Daltawa, Stakes winning dam of World Champion Daylami, was flooded with compliments after the race.

Trainer Alain de Royer Dupré commented: “Of all the greats I have trained for His Highness, Dalakhani is the most complete racehorse. He has all the qualities – he has speed, precocity, he stays and he relaxes perfectly…. The sky’s the limit”.

Owner breeder His Highness The Aga Khan added: “When he retires, he will be a great opportunity for breeders, as he is free of Northern Dancer blood, with his pedigree all built around Never Bend. He is a great horse who is maturing and we enjoy being around him.”
