H.H. the Aga Khan’s colours will be carried by a high class delegation of three Group-winning fillies at the forthcoming Dubai World Cup meeting at Meydan.
The visitors are headed by dual Group 1 winner and Arc de Triomphe runner-up Shareta who is being prepared by Alain de Royer Dupré for the Dubai Sheema Classic. The daughter of Sinndar will attempt to glean a third Group 1 title after her victories in the Yorkshire Oaks and Prix Vermeille. This will be the final racecourse appearance for the five-year-old before retiring to the paddocks where she already has an engagement with Haras de Bonneval resident Redoute’s Choice.
In the Gr.2 Godolphin Mile, the Aga Khan Studs will be represented by Gr.1 Prix du Moulin third Sarkiyla (Oasis Dream). This four-year-old filly picked up the Gr.3 Prix de Lieurey last August, as well as a Listed contest over a mile at Chantilly.
The objective for Verema (Barathea) will be the Gr.3 Dubai Gold Cup and this filly has already proven her worth over an extended trip when winning the 15-furlong Gr.3 Prix de Lutèce at Longchamp. The granddaughter of Prix de Diane heroine Vereva (Kahyasi) also took fourth place against her elders and the colts in the Gr.1 Prix Royal-Oak.
The Aga Khan Studs are no stranger to success in the United Arab Emirates, thanks to the likes of Sandagiyr (Dr Fong) who went on to success last season for new Godolphin connections, while Sanaya (Barathea) lifted the Gr.3 Cape Verdi Stakes for H.H. the Aga Khan. Princess Zahra Aga Khan narrowly missed out on Group 1 victory in 2008 as champion filly Darjina (Zamindar) was beaten just half a length into second place in the Dubai Duty Free.
Diego Velazquez wins first running of the Gr.1 Aga Khan Studs Prix Jacques Le Marois.
