Choice selection of Aga Khan Studs-sired yearlings to go under the hammer

Friday 22 September 2023

Group 1 sires Sea The Stars, Siyouni and Zarak all represented at Goffs, Tattersalls and Arqana this autumn.

The major autumn yearling sales this year will feature a choice selection of individuals by SEA THE STARS, SIYOUNI and ZARAK – all of whom sired Group 1 winners in 2023 who themselves went through the ring as yearlings, namely Emily Upjohn, Paddington and Zagrey.

SEA THE STARS, who is currently the leading Irish-based sire, is well represented at both the Goffs Orby and Tattersalls October Yearling Sales. His draft at Goffs includes a full sister to Group 1 winner Shraaoh, half-siblings to State Of Rest and Phoenix Of Spain and a colt out of a half-sister to the great Lillie Langtrey, as well as a filly closely related to Cloth Of Stars.

Another Cloth Of Stars relation will be on offer at Tattersalls Book 1, together with full siblings to Classic winner and sire Sea The Moon, Gr.1 Australian Cup winner Fifty Stars and 2023 Group winner and Group 1-placed Sea Silk Road. A half-sister to last season’s Gr.1 Prix de l’Opéra winner Place Du Carrousel is also joined by close relations to multiple Group 1 winning sons of SEA THE STARS Crystal Ocean and Harzand.

Meanwhile, the sole representative for SEA THE STARS at the Arqana October Sale will be a filly out of a Stakes-placed half-sister to Arc heroine Danedream.

SIYOUNI has enjoyed an incredible season in 2023, with three Group 1 winners spearheaded by Paddington, a graduate of the aforementioned Arqana sale. His 15 lots catalogued at this year’s October Yearling Sale include a full brother to triple Group 1 winner Sottsass, one of two yearlings in the sale bred on the renowned SIYOUNI x Galileo cross, as well as a colt out Stakes winner Shamtee, who is bred on the same cross as recent Gr.2 Gimcrack Stakes runner-up Johannes Brahms. Five further yearlings are either out of Stakes winning dams or are half-siblings to Stakes winners.

The three SIYOUNI yearlings in the Goffs Orby Sale include a filly out of a half-sister to Mukhadram, while at Tattersalls the lots on offer include colts out of Group 1 winners Blond Me and Vorda, a half-sister to recent Gr.1 Nassau Stakes heroine Al Husn and a close relation to SIYOUNI’s juvenile Group winning daughter Acer Alley.

ZARAK has gone from strength to strength with his first crops of runners, among them six Group 1 performers headed by recent Group 1 winner Zagrey. Buyers will have limited chances to secure a member of his current yearling crop at both Goffs Orby and at Tattersalls – including a filly from the family of Dreamloper and Talent up for sale at Goffs, and a filly out of a half-sister to Erupt catalogued in Tattersalls Book 1.

At Arqana, ZARAK will be represented by 17 yearlings, including relations to Alpha Centauri, Alpine Star, Baaeed, One Cool Cat, Peintre Celebre, Sweet Lady and VADENI.

DARIYAN, who has produced many winners in 2023 including Princess Child (currently the best juvenile in Spain), will be represented by two yearlings in Deauville – a half-brother to Stakes winner Hayzum and a descendant of Coup De Genie.
