Group 1 success in the Southern Hemisphere for Siyouni

dimanche 4 décembre 2022

Amelia’s Jewel becomes only the fourth filly ever to win the Gr.1 Northerly Stakes.

Known as the West Australian wonder, Amelia’s Jewel will now head east after a brilliant victory against her elders in the Gr.1 Northerly Stakes (formerly known as the Kingston Town Classic). The three-year-old SIYOUNI filly has now won six Stakes races from 1000m to 1800m for her owner/breeder Peter Walsh of Amelia Park Racing.

“I’ve waited 50 years for it, but it was worth it,” Walsh said. “It’s a bit surreal, I think I might have died and gone to heaven. I have had seven seconds, two thirds and two fourths in Group 1s.

“We think she is a superstar, and we love her.”

Her trainer Simon Miller added: “She is just a freak. She has an unbelievable engine with a huge stride, and a great brain.”

Amelia’s Jewel’s dam, Canford Cliffs mare Bumbasina, visted SIYOUNI again in 2022.

SIYOUNI’s Southern Hemisphere success did not go unnoticed at the Arqana Breeding Stock Sale in Deauville.

Lot 142, Roselyne, a winning daughter of DARIYAN and a close relation of Lope De Vega from Fairway Consignment, was purchased by Damon Gabbedy of Belmont Bloodstock, carrying a SIYOUNI foal on Southern Hemisphere time.

“She’s been bought for Nino Tufilli who is based in Western Australia but the mare will go back to New South Wales to Middlebrook Valley Stud,” said Gabbedy. “She has a beautiful pedigree, we love SIYOUNI and they work well down there. Nino has just watched Amelia’s Jewel, who is by SIYOUNI, win the Group 1 in Australia, and he was rather keen to acquire her.”

Another headed to Australia is Times Square, a Stakes winning and Classic-placed daughter of ZARAK, who was among the top lots on the opening day of the sale. Consigned by trainer Christophe Ferland, she was purchased for €1.25 million to Hubie De Burgh, who said: “She has been purchased to go to Australia and will go and race down there. I can’t tell you who is going to train her yet because the buyer is 35,000 feet in the air at the minute.

“We thought the opposition was going to be strong and, quite honestly, we thought we wouldn’t be able to get her. She’s a Group 1-placed three-year-old by ZARAK out of a SIYOUNI mare, so they are two of the great proven stallions in Europe at the minute, and the family goes back well. The half-sister is Group-placed and won her maiden very impressively so there are a lot of little things happening in the pedigree. With all the prize-money on offer in Australia, if she can go down there and be a good miler, she could bring back her costs very quickly.”

Also commanding a seven-figure price was Classic-placed Burgharita (SEA THE STARS), consigned by Baroda Stud, who sold for €1.7 million to Godolphin.
