Sea The Stars and Siyouni star over the weekend

More Classic hopes for Siyouni.

SIYOUNI and SEA THE STARS were in fine form on Sunday, with Group wins for POLICY OF TRUTH and AL AASY, while the Haras de Bonneval sire also saw his daughter Silvestri finish a close second in the Prix de la Grotte and the Gilltown Stud stallion celebrated two further winners at ParisLongchamp.

Already sire of last season’s top European juvenile and leading 2000 Guineas contender St Mark’s Basilica, SIYOUNI now counts another prominent Classic hope following the stylish win of his son POLICY OF TRUTH in the Gr.3 Prix de Fontainebleau. The Pia and Joakim Brandt trained colt was making his seasonal debut in this premier trial for the Poule d’Essai des Poulains and after racing in the rear of the field he made a progressive run in the straight and asserted to win by half a length from Gr.1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère scorer Sealiway at the line. This was a second Group success for POLICY OF TRUTH as he had lifted the Gr.3 Prix des Chênes over the same ParisLongchamp course and distance last September. His trainer and part-owner in association with the Haras du Logis Saint Germain, Pia Brandt, was delighted, “Anything he accomplished last year was a bonus as he is a big powerful colt who is arriving at maturity now. He will now be prepared for the Poule d’Essai des Poulains.”

SIYOUNI could have another French Guineas contender in Silvestri who took second place in the Gr.3 Prix de la Grotte. On just her third public appearance, the progressive filly ran on well in the final stages and was beaten by just a head. SIYOUNI’s daughter DREAM AND DO filled the same position in this trial last year before going on to victory in the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches.

SEA THE STARS secured Group success at Newbury thanks to his son AL AASY who was a dominant four and a half-length winner of the Gr.3 John Porter Stakes. The four-year-old colt was returning after an absence of almost nine months and this was his second Group victory following the Gr.3 Bahrain Trophy Stakes at Newmarket last July. Trained by William Haggas for Shadwell, AL AASY holds entries in the Gr.2 Yorkshire Cup and the Gr.1 Coronation Cup.

SEA THE STARS was also responsible for two promising winners at ParisLongchamp on Sunday, in the form of newcomer Burgarita and the lightly-raced Silastar. The André Fabre-trained Burgarita impressed with her winning debut in the Prix de Chaillot and she is engaged in both the Prix Saint-Alary and Prix de Diane, while Silastar, a son of dual Group 1 winner Silasol, opened his account on his fourth attempt in the competitive Prix du Jardin Carré over a mile and a half.
