Fifty Stars shines bright for his sire

Monday 9 March 2020

He becomes the 13th Gr.1 winner by Sea The Stars.

Fifty Stars put up an impressive performance to win the Australian Cup at Randwick on Saturday, the first Group 1 of his consistent career. Settled in the back of the field by his jockey John Allen, he produced a storming finish to pass the field and win by half a length ahead of Regal Power and Melbourne Cup Hero, Vow And Declare.

Fifty Stars, who is trained by David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, was following up on his success in the Gr.2 Blamey Stakes just a week ago. He has now won ten races in Australia, including five Group races and could be prepared for the Ranvet Stakes and then the Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Bred in Ireland by Sonia and Anthony Rogers’ Airlie Stud, Fifty Stars was purchased as a yearling for 110,000 gns at Tattersalls by John Foote on behalf of his current owner, Gerry Ryan.

SEA THE STARS has only been represented by a handful of runners in Australia, with five of his 19 starters performing at Group level. They notably include Shraaoh, the winner of the Gr.1 Sydney Cup over a mile last year.

On the same card, the two-year-old daughter of SIYOUNI See You Soon earned her ticket for the Gr.1 Golden Slipper with a close second place in the Gr.2 Reisling Stakes over 6 furlongs. Conceived in France, the filly trained by Jean-Etienne Dubois was having her third start and will be aimed at the richest race for two-year-olds in two weeks.
