Maralan and Akilak to Cheltenham

Wednesday 9 March 2005

Maralan, an ex Aga Khan owned four-year-old, won convincingly at Navan on Saturday and is now destined for the Fred Winter Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

After cruising to a smooth eight length success in the two mile maiden hurdle his trainer Oliver Brady commented: “He’s an improving horse who likes galloping tracks. He goes to the Festival with a big chance”.

Another ex Aga Khan owned leading fancy for Cheltenham is the Triumph Hurdle favourite, Akilak. After his astonishing win first time out in a Grade 2 hurdle at Cheltenham in January, he confirmed his promise with a professional victory at Haydock in a Novice’s Hurdle in February.

Both Maralan and Akilak were sold at the Goffs Ireland Horses In Training sale last October, for €56,000 and €100,000 respectively.
