Alamshar Sale

Monday 6 October 2003

An agreement has been reached between HH the Aga Khan Studs and the Japan Racing Association for the purchase of the Irish Derby and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond stakes winner Alamshar

(3yo colt Key Of Luck/Alaiyda). He will retire to stud in Japan where he will commence stud duties in 2004.

It remains a possibility that Alamshar will have one final start for His Highness the Aga Khan in the Champion Stakes at Newmarket on October 18th, which would be his last race.

Commenting on the sale, the Irish stud manager of the Aga Khan Studs, Pat Downes said: “Alamshar is an outstanding racehorse and particularly at Ascot when taking on the older horses for the first time, he showed us what a champion he is. However we must on occasion capitalise on our Group One colts. We wish the JRA great success and are confident Alamshar will be an exciting addition to the Japanese breeding industry”.
