Group 1s galore in Aga Khan Studs Arqana draft

Friday 21 November 2014

Sisters to Shareta and Dalkala, and the dam of Behkabad feature in December sale.

Arqana’s breeding stock sale on 6th to 9th December offers breeders and investors some wonderful opportunities to enrich their bloodlines. The Aga Khan Studs are strongly featured in the catalogue, with some excellent pedigrees represented by proven and potential broodmares.

Among the 33 Aga Khan Studs graduates, two mares have already enjoyed outstanding success in the breeding shed. Behkara (Kris), winner of the Gr. 2 Prix Hubert de Chaudenay, is the dam of Gr. 1 Grand Prix de Paris and Gr. 2 Prix Niel scorer Behkabad. Behkara has also produced Prix du Jockey Club fourth Beheshtam and Behesht, winner of the Listed Prix de Turenne this season. By Linamix, Alnamara is another established broodmare. Listed victrix herself, she is from the family of Sakhee and Mastercraftsman and has produced three winners, notably ALNADANA, placed second at Group 1 level and successful in the Gr. 3 Prix Messidor.

In foal for the first time to Dalakhani, five-year-old Mansera is a promising broodmare prospect. This winning mare is a half-sister to triple Australian Group 1 winner Manighar.

Investors will certainly also be attracted by a number of well-bred three-year-olds fillies. Of these, some of the most appealing winners are ; Mintaka (Zamindar), niece of the aforementioned Manighar ; Dourada (Invincible Spirit), from the family of Gr. 1 Hong Kong Vase winner Daryakana ; Kastiya (Desert Style), a half-sister to Gr. 2 scorer Kesampour who hails from the Kahyasi line ; Shemya (Dansili), the first foal of dual Group winner Shemima ; Keena (Acclamation), a half-sister to four black-type performers ; Brynica (Desert Style), a half-sister to Jockey Club third Baraan.

Two placed fillies boast remarkable pedigrees: Vadirima (Selkirk) is out of a half-sister to Vazira (Gr. 1 Prix Saint-Alary this year), Vadawina (Gr. 1 Prix Saint-Alary) and multiple Group victrix Vadapolina, the latter two being black-type broodmares. Nazmia (Holy Roman Emperor) is a half-sister to three-time Stakes winner and Group 1 runner-up in 2014 Narniyn.

Finally, a pair of unraced three-year-olds stand out thanks to their exceptional origins. Shazana is a Manduro half-sister to dual Gr. 1 victrix and Arc second SHARETA, and a niece of Shawanda, also winner of a pair of Group 1 titles and dam of Classic scorer Encke. Doulmera (Mr Greeley) hails from the famous line of Dalakhani and Daylami and is herself a half-sister to Gr. 1 Prix de l’Opéra winner DALKALA.
