Whazzat wins the Chesham Stakes for Daylami

Sunday 20 June 2004

The two year old filly Whazzat kept her unbeaten record when storming home to a three and a half length success in the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday.

Having made a winning debut at Newbury over six furlongs just ten days earlier, Whazzat, the only filly in the race, responded immediately when asked to quicken, putting daylight between herself and the rest of the field.

The Group III May Hill Stakes at Doncaster was highlighted as a possible objective for Whazzat, whose trainer Barry Hills seemed delighted, commenting: “This filly’s not that big but she has a bit of fire about her. They normally need something there – otherwise they’re no good.”

The talented three year old colt Comfort Zone also lost his maiden tag at Down Royal on Saturday, providing Daylami with a double and taking his winners to runners strike rate to 40% in 2004.
