Bay Tree 3rd consecutive debutant winner for Daylami

Monday 4 August 2003

Bay Tree became Daylami’s third consecutive debutant winner in the space of a week when taking P J Savage Maiden Fillies’ Stakes by three lengths at Newbury yesterday.

Tucked in behind during the early stages of the race, she quickened well inside the last two furlongs to take the lead in this six furlong event and win in good style. Her trainer Barry Hills commented after the race:

“I could not be more pleased with Bay Tree, who really warmed up in the last furlong and a half. We will strike while the iron is hot and have a shot at the (Listed) Sweet Solera at Newmarket on Saturday.”

The well bred Bay Tree is a daughter of My Branch, who was placed in both the English and Irish 1,000 Guineas.

First season sire Daylami looks to be making a very promising start to his new career at stud, following the impressive first time out successes of Grey Swallow and Thajja last week. He has also sired the dual winning, Cherry Hinton placed, Birthday Suit.
