Impressive fillies Mananiyya and Luriyya

Thursday 17 April 2003

Three year old fillies Mananiyya and Luriyya continued The Aga Khan Studs’ excellent start to the season with impressive victories in England and France respectively.

A close second on her only outing at two, Mananiyya was making her seasonal debut in a 1700 metres maiden at Windsor. Tracking the leader until the three furlong pole, Mananiyya quickened well in the straight to take the lead. She went clear of her rivals to eventually win by a long looking five lengths, prompting her trainer Sir Michael Stoute to comment:

“She was very professional and travelled well and quickened up. She a big filly and she’ll improve.”

Mananiyya is a half sister to three winners including Grade I winner Manndar (by Doyoun) and Listed winner Mandilak. By Ashkalani, Mananiyya is the second filly by this sire to have impressed in recent days, the other Halawanda won her maiden at Newbury on Friday last, and also looks to have promising future.

It was then Luriyya’s turn in France to continue the excellent run of form. This scopey Valanour filly made her first start a winning one, when making all and being eased up to win a conditions’ event at Maisons-Laffitte by three lengths.

Luriyya’s dam Liwana is a daughter of Rainbow Quest and the Group III winner Linnga. She is from the direct family of Group I winners Akarad, Akiyda and Acamas
