Kalaman a winner at Newbury

Saturday 12 April 2003

Kalanisi’s highly regarded three year old half brother Kalaman was another Aga Khan owned three year old to make a good start to the year when taking the Dubai International Airport Maiden

Stakes over a mile at Newbury yesterday.

Held up towards the rear of the field, Kalaman was brought with a run three furlongs out. Taking the lead with two furlongs to go, he comfortably held off a challenge of from Act of Duty, the pair of them finishing five lengths clear of the rest of the field.

Out of the Green Dancer mare Kalamba, the beautifully bred Kalaman is a half brother to Champion Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Kalanisi, now standing at Gilltown Stud. Like his brother, Kalaman is now expected to be stepped up in class for his next outing.
