The Aga Khan Studs in Ireland cover about 2,400 acres (1,000 ha) and are divided in four studs. Gilltown Stud is currently home to Champion Sea The Stars, and his dual Derby winning son in 2016 Harzand.

The four studs in France have a total surface of about 1,330 acres (540 ha) of finest Normandy pasture. Stallions Siyouni, Dariyan, and Zarak are based at Haras de Bonneval.

The present Aga Khan has bred over a hundred Group I winners from a broodmare band that is famous for having been continually developed since his grandfather the late Aga Khan III was first introduced to racing in the 1920’s.

Amongst the first fillies bought by the Aga Khan III in the 1920s was Mumtaz Mahal, the ninth dam of Zarkava. The success of the operation has been based on a few foundation mares from which all of the Aga Khan horses descend.

The founding stud farms in each country were bought during this period: Sheshoon Stud in 1923 and Haras de Saint-Crespin in 1927. The late Aga Khan thus created the basis for the two-country system that later flourished under the guidance of his grandson, His Highness the Aga Khan. The range of stud farms that have been maintained is surely an essential component of the success of his horses, and illustrates the mastery of every step of the profession which the Aga Khan Studs have achieved.
The training activity has followed this same path, as the Aga Khan has his horses exclusively trained in Ireland and France. Top trainers and jockeys, together with dedicated staff, participate in every success.
Finally, the sales activity relies in great part upon this same mechanism: each year, horses in training and broodmares stemming from Aga Khan families are offered for sale at the Arqana sales in France and the Goffs auctions in Ireland, on top of a limited amount of stock sold privately.
