The five-strong consignment from the Aga Khan Studs for the forthcoming Goffs February Sale in Ireland features some well-bred three-year-olds including recent winner colt Arif, from the family of Alandi and Alamshar.
Lot 269 Arif had made a pleasing debut at Dundalk in December, finishing second by three-quarters of a length in a seven furlong contest on the all-weather. It took him less than a month to win his maiden over a mile at the same racetrack. The Nayef colt is out of three-time winning mare Adjaliya, who is by proven broodmare sire Sinndar. Arif is also a close relative dual Gr. 1 winning stayer Alandi, and champions Alamshar and Aliysa.
The once-raced Rashaan (Manduro, lot 284) is a half-brother to Gr. 1 Irish Guineas runner-up Rayeni, also successful at Gr. 3 level, and to Rayadour, a seven-time winner on the flat and over hurdles. The gelding is a grandson of Gr. 1 Irish St Leger second Rayseka, and from the maternal family of Gr. 1 Prix de l’Opéra heroine Ridasiyna.
Lot 277 Hazak is another well-bred colt, being a son of Gr. 1 Irish Oaks third Hazarista (Barathea) and Cape Cross, sire of Sea The Stars. From a family boasting plenty of black-type winners, Hazak is a half-brother to the prolific Hazariban (Kahyasi) who has won five races under both codes.
Unraced Darram (Desert Style, lot 272) hails from the pedigree of champion three-year-old filly Darjina, a three-time Gr. 1 winner over a mile. He is from a versatile family which features Prix du Jockey Club scorer Darsi as well as an Australian Stakes winner and a Gr. 3 winning hurdler.
Buyers will have a rare opportunity to invest in an untried Aga Khan Studs filly, in the form of lot 374 Halikaya. This daughter of Teofilo and out of Stakes placed mare Halawanda (Ashkalani) is a half-sister to a pair of winners.
