Sea The Stars filly tops Tatts day two

Monday 2 December 2013

Seven foals by the Gilltown sire break 200,000 Guinea barrier.

SEA THE STARS lit up the second day of the Tattersalls December Foal Sale with his daughter raising the highest bid of the day at 320,000 Guineas. The filly (lot 761), a half-sister to Gr 1 Sun Chariot Stakes winner Spinning Queen consigned by Newsells Park Stud was eventually knocked down to Charlie Gordon-Watson who had the final word over John Clarke. The successful agent remarked, « She is a beautiful filly, one of my picks of the week, a great mover and there is everything to like about her. I really believe in SEA THE STARS and believe he will come good. »

Sea The Sun, another SEA THE STARS daughter, proved popular during the following session to sell for the same figure of 320,000 Guineas. This filly (lot 969) hails from one of the best current German families, as she is out of a half-sister to Classic scorers Schiaparelli, Samum and Salve Regina. Consigned by Plumton Hall Stud on behalf of breeders Gestüt Görlsdorf, she could carry the same colours as her champion racehorse sire as she was purchased by John Clarke for the Tsui family’s Sunderland Holdings. Sea The Sun’s full brother Sea The Moon was an impressive winner on his debut and is being aimed at the German Derby next season.

In total, seven SEA THE STARS foals reached or broke the 200,000 Guinea mark in the ring and these included his highest priced colt, lot 1029 who changed hands for 280,000 Guineas. Bought by BBA Ireland, this son of the Derby and Arc winner is out of Danehill mare Juno Marlowe, the full sister to three Stakes winners. She has already produced three black-type performers including Gr 1 runner up Marzelline (Barathea).

Sheikh Mohammed’s bloodstock advisor John Ferguson signed at 240,000 Guineas for lot 1018, a SEA THE STARS half-brother to Gr 2 scorer Mukhadram (Shamardal), while lot 944, from the close family of Fame and Glory, was knocked down to Shadwell for 235,000 Guineas.

Overall, 16 of SEA THE STARS progeny met with success in the Tattersalls ring, for an average of 187,000 Guineas (€236,800).
