More winners for Sea The Stars

A weekend double brings Gilltown Stud sire’s tally to seven.

SEA THE STARS is getting into his stride as a sire and he enjoyed an excellent weekend with a 1 – 2 at Newmarket and a winner in Cologne.

This double brings the Arc de Triomphe hero’s total up to seven first-crop winners and 13 placed horses from 26 runners, a success rate of 27% (source Hyperion Promotions).

Taghrooda, who opened her account on the first time of asking at Newmarket on Saturday, represents the Aga Khan Studs on both sides of her pedigree. Her dam Ezima (Sadler’s Wells), a three-time Listed winner, hails from the line of Enzeli, Edabiya, Ebadiyla and Estimate. The Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum homebred took the lead in the final furlong and ran on well to deny another SEA THE STARS filly, favourite Casual Smile, by a neck in the EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over a mile on the Rowley Mile course. The victory bodes well for the future as this contest has been won in the past by Gr 1 fillies Look Here and Midday. Casual Smile, a daughter of Oaks victrix Casual Look, has been most consistent in her career to date, finishing second or third on all three outings and looks certain to lose her maiden tag before long.

SEA THE STARS has been an immediate hit as a stallion in Germany, striking with his very first runner Sea The Moon. Trained by Markus Klug for owner/breeder Gestüt Görlsdorf, Sea The Moon won his maiden impressively at Cologne on Sunday. His next start will be in the Group 3 Preis der Winterfavoriten in mid-October.
