Monday 10 June 2013

16-Strong Aga Khan contingent for Arqana July.

Sold for 160,000 Euros at Arqana’s horses in training sale last July, DIAKALI has progressed into one of the best hurdlers of his generation. This season, the son of Sinndar lifted the Gr 1 Champion Four-Year-Old Hurdle at Punchestown and the French equivalent, the Gr 1 Prix Alain du Breil at Auteuil on Sunday.

The Aga Khan Studs draft for the 2013 edition of this sale on 4th July consists of sixteen individuals with potential to succeed on the flat or over jumps. The consignment is headed by Listed winner and Group-placed VALIYR (Alhaarth) who took the ten furlong Prix Matchem at three years old and finished second in the Gr 3 Prix Daphnis. Trained by Alain de Royer Dupré, VALIYR (lot 359) is a brother to the ill-fated 2012 Prix de Diane heroine Valyra (Azamour).

Lot 198 BARADARI is another black-type individual who has been placed twice at Listed level over a mile and a half, in addition to a success over 2000 metres. The son of Manduro boasts an excellent pedigree, as his second dam Behera won the Prix de Diane and has produced five Stakes performers including Gr 2 victrix Behkara, dam of Gr 1 Grand Prix de Paris scorer Behkabad. The family has also enjoyed success over jumps as BARADARI’s half-brother Barizan is a Group 1 hurdle winner.

Lot 215 DISPOUR has just earned an important update as this son of Monsun opened his account with victory over 2000m in a Maisons-Laffite handicap in early June. The colt has a beautiful pedigree as he is out of a Sadler’s Wells half sister to Daylami and Dalakhani.

Lots 260 KALIMANTAN and 320 RAYAK have both been placed on the racecourse, with the former, a son of Azamour, second over 2400m recently. He is none other than the half-brother of Gr 1 winner and sire Kalanisi. Rayak (Invincible Spirit) has finished in the money on his three outings to date, and he is the half-brother to Irish Guineas runner-up Rayeni.
