Aga Khan bred shines in Sun Chariot

Group 1 winner Siyouma was sold by Aga Khan Studs.

SIYOUMA’s success in the Gr 1 Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday is the latest in a long line of top-level triumphs for Aga Khan breds sold at auction or privately. The filly added her name to that of three-time 2012 Group 1 scorer MANIGHAR (Linamix), with other recent examples being Mighty High (Peintre Célèbre) and ALPINE ROSE (Linamix).

Indeed SIYOUMA has a similar profile to the blue-blooded ALPINE ROSE, who was sold at Arqana’s December breeding stock sale before going on to significantly increase her paddock value with Group 1 victory.

The beautifully-bred SIYOUMA is a Medicean half-sister to Gr 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère winner Siyouni (Pivotal), who now stands at Haras de Bonneval. The filly is out of Listed winning Danehill mare Sichilla, whose half-brothers Slickly is a leading French sire and winner of four Group 1 titles, and No Slip is also a sire after lifting the Gr 2 Oak Tree Derby. Her third dam Country Queen won the Gr 1 Yellow Ribbon Stakes. SIYOUMA has a two-year-old half sister by Azamour and foal half-sister by Galileo. Her dam Sichilla is currently in foal to Sea The Stars.

SIYOUMA was presented at Arqana’s breeding stock sale last December as a lightly-raced filly with one win to her name. She was snapped up by François Doumen for 220,000 Euros on behalf of owner Robert Jeffcock and the astute handler has been rewarded for keeping the filly in training at four years old. After a success on her first outing for new connections in March, SIYOUMA picked up black type in France and England before stepping up again at Newmarket to take the Gr 1 Sun Chariot Stakes in good style, defeating Group 1 winners Elusive Kate, Chachamaidee and Beauty Parlour. She could now continue her travels and quest for further Group 1 glory, with possible engagements in Canada, Japan and Hong Kong.
