Arqana opportunity to acquire aga khan families

Thursday 16 August 2012

Aga Khan dams feature prominently in the August catalogue.

From the first crop of Gr 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère scorer Naaqoos, lot 327 boasts a prolific black-type family on his dam’s side. His third dam Shemaka lifted the Prix de Diane and has gone on to produce three Stakes winners, plus the dams of two further Group scorers. Under his second dam, Listed winning Shemaya (Darshaan), one finds Listed placed Shendaya and the dam of Group 2 winner Shimraan. This colt, consigned by the Haras du Logis Saint Germain, is the half-brother to one winner and he has already passed through the Deauville ring on two occasions, once in utero when his dam was sold to William Huntingdon for 22,000 Euros in December 2010 and then as a foal last December when he was picked up for 32,000 Euros by Marc-Antoine Berghgracht.

Part of the Ecurie des Monceaux draft, lot 328 comes from one of the most famous Aga Khan families, that of Shergar. The dual Derby hero was a full brother to this colt’s third dam Sherzana, who produced Stakes winners Shemaran and Sheraka as well as the dam of Group 1 victrix Choc Ice and two other Pattern scorers. By Arc-winning sire King’s Best, the colt is the first live produce out of SHERMIYNA (Barathea) who was sold by the Aga Khan Studs to Suprina for 42,000 Euros in December 2009.

The dam of lot 412 by Invincible Spirit, CELEBRE FRAGANCE (Peintre Célèbre), is a half-sister to no less than five Stakes winners, including Group 1 scorers Fragrant Mix and Alpine Rose. The family has already proved successful in the paddocks as three of CELEBRE FRAGANCE’s half-sisters have given birth to Stakes performers including the Listed victrix and Gr 2 runner-up Under The Rainbow. CELEBRE FRAGANCE, who was sold for 165,000 Euros to Riviera Equine in December 2006, has produced two winners to date. Consigned like this filly by the Haras d’Etreham, her daughter by Verglas sold for 70,000 Euros last August and is now in training with Christophe Ferland.
