Sinndar’s Shareta takes Prix Minerve at Deauville

Thursday 18 August 2011

Further afield, Ziyarid is an excellent runner-up in Arlington Gr 1.

The Haras de Bonneval’s Sinndar celebrated another Group success recently at Deauville, where his three-year-old daughter SHARETA was the easy winner of the Gr 3 Prix Minerve. Trained by Alain de Royer Dupré for H.H. the Aga Khan, SHARETA made almost all of the running in this extended mile and a half event and eventually scored by three lengths. She registered her third career victory, after success in the Listed Prix de Thiberville on Longchamp’s Grand Prix de Paris card in July, and has now earned herself a place in the reckoning for September’s Gr 1 Prix Vermeille.

SHARETA’s dam Shawara (Barathea) returned to Sinndar in 2011. She was a Listed winner at Deauville and is the half-sister to champion filly Shawanda, also by Sinndar, who lifted both the Irish Oaks Gr 1 and Prix Vermeille Gr 1. SHARETA’s sire Sinndar will be represented by four yearlings at Arqana’s forthcoming August yearling sale.

Across the Altantic, Alain de Royer Dupré’s Ziyarid put up a superb performance to finish second in the Gr 1 Secretariat Stakes on Saturday. The son of Desert Style was stepping up in class following three consecutive successes which had culminated with the Gr 3 Prix Daphnis, and he made a brave attempt to make all on the Arlington turf, just losing out to the 2011 Irish Derby winner Treasure Beach in the final stages. Ziyarid, who is yet another from the famous Petite Etoile line, has proved that he is up to Group 1 level and now has plenty of options open to him and could line up in the Gr 2 Prix Dollar.

Other noteworthy Aga Khan performances recently include a promising second from Emiyna (Maria’s Mon) against her elders and male counterparts in the Gr 3 Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown. John Oxx’s filly had not raced since the Irish 1000 Guineas in May and should improve from this outing.

Finally, in Deauville the consistent SHAMANOVA (Danehill Dancer) picked up more black type when finishing third in the Gr 2 Prix de Pomone. Out of the Irish Oaks runner-up Shamadara (Kahyasi), SHAMANOVA is a half sister to Group 1 winner Shamdala (Grand Lodge) and she had a full sister in 2011.
