First foal of Champion is born

Monday 24 January 2011

The eagerly awaited first foal of Sea The Stars was born on Friday 21st January.

The bay colt was born just before midnight at 11.50 pm at Castlebridge Stud. Out of Centreofattention, a full sister to the dual Group 1 winning two-year-old Holy Roman Emperor, the foal was described by Bill Dwan as “a smashing colt with plenty of size and scope, he is completely bay with a very attractive head, hopefully he proves to be as successful on the racetrack as his father!”

SEA THE STARS, the winner of six Group 1s made an impressive start at stud, covering a first book of high quality mares as 90% of them have either already produced Group 1 performers, have performed at Group 1 level themselves or are closely related to Group 1 performers. Amongst the mares due to foal shortly feature the Champion Zarkava, the Group 1 winners Alpine Rose, Finsceal Beo, Eva’s Request, Oaks heroine Casual Look, the dams of AZAMOUR and Behkabad plus Dolores (the dam of Prix Niel winner Duncan, by DALAKHANI).

The first mares in foal to SEA THE STARS went through the sales in the winter of 2010, with the top price of $1,050,000 paid for Love To Dance, a half sister to Dylan Thomas, at Keeneland November Sale. Amongst the first mares going through the European rings, Soinlovewithyou culminated at £950,000 at Tattersalls December mare sale. SEA THE STARS was the first freshman covering sire with his mares in foal averaging €493,000.

SEA THE STARS stands at His Highness the Aga Khan’s Gilltown Stud in 2011 at a fee of €85,000, alongside fellow Arc winner DALAKHANI and leading young sire AZAMOUR.
