Five winners among the Aga Khan Arqana draft

The sale where future French champion hurdler Mandali was sold, offers plenty of potential.

The Aga Khan consignment for Arqana’s Autumn sale at Saint Cloud on 15th November contains a wide range of well-bred proven performers. Mandali, who went on to lift the Grade 1 Grande Course de Haies d’Auteuil (French Champion Hurdle) last June, was bought by trainer Jean-Paul Gallorini at this sale two years ago for 62,000 Euros and the latest draft from the Aga Khan Studs contains promising individuals for a future either on the flat or over jumps.

Among those already successful on the racecourse, Shalangar is a Red Ransom half-brother to Gr 1 Prix de l’Opera winner Shalanaya, from the family of Shergar. Shalangar has recently won twice at Compiègne and Maisons-Laffitte. Also by Red Ransom, Saghar has scored twice to date over 9 ½ and 10 ½ furlongs. He is out of a half-sister to Arc hero Sagamix. More high-class families are represented by dual winner Sendiym (Rainbow Quest), out of a half-sister to four-time Gr 1 scorer and sire Sendawar.Recent Tiercé winner Marakashi who is a Lando half-brother to Pattern performers Marquix and Sceptre Rouge, and Birzali, a Kalanisi son of Gr 2 Prix de Pomone winner Bernimixa are also among the draft.

Khalshani, who placed 2nd since the catalogue’s publication, is by renowned dual-purpose sire Kahyasi and is out of a half-sister to Gr 1 Grand Prix de Paris winner and sire Khalkevi, from a family which features multiple Grade-winning hurdler Khayrawani, while Veratan, by Sinndar, has placed three times in three races. His granddam is Prix de Diane heroine Vereva.

By Gilltown Stud’s highly successful Dalakhani, Chenar is a half brother to triple Gr 1 scorer Cherry Mix. Visayan is by Kalanisi and out of a sister to Stakes winners Visorama, Visionary, Varenar (Gr1 Prix de la Forêt) and Visindar (Gr2 Prix Greffulhe). His half-siblings include Gr 3 winner Visionario and Gr 2 runner-up Vison Célèbre.
